I use XFader texture creator from Pegtop to create seamless tiles. This inexpensive program has lots of options besides simply blending edges. (Paint Shop Pro has a seamless tile option, but XFader allows you much more control.) In a graphics program I select a portion of an image that I hope will blend well into its opposite edges, save it, then use XFader to smoosh it into a seamless tile.
